Please note this immediate change in meal serving policies:
To maintain DHEC standards and continue the excellent quality of our freshly prepared food, all show meals at NarroWay will begin serving at the advertised show time. Anyone not in the ticketed seat before that time must forfeit the meal. Previously our cast has attempted to serve individuals as they arrive, even those arriving past the serving time. This is no longer an option.
TO AVOID A PROBLEM, PLEASE COMMUNICATE THIS CHANGE TO EVERYONE IN YOUR PARTY AND PLAN TO ARRIVE 45-MINUTES PRIOR TO THE ADVERTISED SHOW TIME.
James J. Alexander was 17 years old when Japanese forces launched a devastating attack on Pearl Harbor. Just under a year later, he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps on his 18th birthday. He soon found himself testing war planes in the bitter cold of Alaska. This hero's story was recently shared with us by his daughters, Elizabeth Putnam and Janet Edwards.
Jack Frank was born April 17, 1925. With WWII in progress, he entered the U.S. Army on October 4, 1943. He received training as a truck driver and mechanic at Fort Bragg, North Carolina before shipping out overseas.
Charles "Chuck" Richardson, "Coming in on a Wing and a Prayer"
Charles Richardson visited the NarroWay Theatre in June 2017. But in the 1940's, he was serving in the European theatre as a gunner aboard a B-17. Emily Wilson wrote his story down for us, including his recount of what he dubs his "worst mission ever," a mission to Munich, Germany in 1944. With more than 600 holes in the plane, engines out and 500 miles from England, Richardson and crew literally found themselves "coming in on a wing and a prayer."
"Doc" Eugene Deibler, a Real Knight in Shining Armor
In August of 2017, we had the privilege of entertaining a real, live Knight at the NarroWay Theatre! Dr. Eugene C. Deibler was Knighted at the request of the President of France into the French Legion of Honor in 2015 for the part he played in liberating France during WWII. Deibler jumped from a plane to land at Normandy on D-Day. Valerie Stancik shared his details with us, including what happened to the parachute he used that day.
Private James Robert Knight enlisted in the US Army at just 17 years old to serve his country in World War II. Today, he doesn't talk much about his time in the military. But we gathered a few details from his daughter, Melanie Ballard, to honor this hero.
John Horace Beauford, A Real Hero Who Stormed Normandy...by accident
In May of 2017, we had the privilege to meet Mr. John Horace Beauford, Sr. at the NarroWay Theatre. A true American hero, Mr. Beauford served as a soldier with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was one of the 156,000 troops to storm Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944. But how he got to Utah Beach was an accident! Read his story below as told by his daughter, Rene Beauford.
